Family Day in CHJ 2024

April 22, 2024

HJ Family Day was celebrated with abundant joy, laughter, and cherished moments shared among families, stakeholders, alumni, and friends. The theme of this year’s Family Day is: JOURNEYING TOGETHER IN PRAYER, LOVE, AND SERVICE.

From the crack of dawn, anticipation filled the air as families arrived, greeted by a vibrant array of activities and festivities meticulously prepared by the CHJ committee. It commenced with a Eucharistic celebration and a tribute to parents. Parents and guardians reveled in the opportunity to connect with fellow community members, exchanging stories and laughter while enjoying the delightful spread of refreshments. The aroma of grilled delights wafted through the air, enticing all to indulge in the culinary treats on offer. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the stage performances, where talents of all ages took center stage. From heartwarming Disney musical performances to spirited dance routines, every act showcased the diversity and talent within our CHJ family. Cheers and applause filled the air as performers basked in the spotlight, their efforts met with admiration and appreciation from the audience. As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the gathering, a show band, Ritmo Tambores, entertained everyone with beautiful and lively music. As we reflect on this special day, let us carry forth the spirit of unity and celebration, nurturing the bonds that unite us and enrich our lives.

Here are some of the snaps from the Family Day Celebration 2024.

As one of its core values, CHJ emphasizes to its students and personnel the value of caring for God’s creations which can be manifested on several tree planting and other related activities conducted by the school and participated by its members over the years. Last April 1, 2022, the faculty, staff, sisters and maintenance personnel of Colegio de las Hijas de Jesus, Inc. took part in a tree planting activity at Bucari Pine Forest and Campsite, Leon, Iloilo in collaboration with the Tourism Office of Leon, Iloilo.

The said activity not only aspires to embody the school’s core values but also aims to respond to Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’ (On Care for Our Common Home) which is a call to humanity for action on sustainable development. Through this, the members of the whole educative family were given an opportunity to contribute in establishing and stabilizing a clean and green environment as well as to nourish their bonds of friendship necessary for personal growth and development.

During the tree planting activity, the faculty, staff, sisters and maintenance personnel planted 60 seedlings of cacao tree. After which, they were given time to hug a tree, go hiking and appreciate nature’s beauty.

Many expressed their appreciation on the said activity and its aims. Ms. Lerma S. Talite, a Filipino teacher, said, “I am thankful that our tree planting was pushed through because in a way, we could concretely show our care for our common home”. Another teacher, Ms. Jellie Star Boco, even added that she felt fulfilled and happy that she can help in planting more trees to lessen the instances of flood and erosion. The school’s committee on Laudato Si’ has carefully planned and has already implemented activities such as the Earth Hour, the backyard gardening, lessening the use of plastic bags, and recycling to respond to nature’s call for restoration.

The conduct of this talk specifically aims at bringing to the awareness of parents and students the nature and effectiveness of the vaccine to prevent the acquisition and spread of the coronavirus.

To achieve this particular aim, Dr. John Andrew T. Camposano, Dr. Ma. Stella G. Paspe, and Dr. Teresa Martirez-Hallegado from the Philippine Pediatrics Society of the Philippines – Western Visayas Chapter were invited. The speakers particularly tackled topics concerning vaccination among adolescents as well as the reasons for the need to vaccinate the younger population. After the talk, the resource persons addressed the questions of the audience during the open forum.

“The talk which was very well-organized and comprehensive had indeed imparted substantial knowledge about vaccine and had made me understand the essence of it in people’s lives and in the society”, said Ma. Jensen Barbielle A. Geraño, a Grade 11 ABM student belonging to the age bracket of 17 years old and below. She commended the school’s effort in organizing such activities in order to aid students like her in becoming responsible and productive members of the society.
